Summer Learning Vault

The OASW Learning Centre (OLC) is excited to launch its inaugural Summer Learning Vault. Every week, OASW members get exclusive access to the recording of one of the OLC’s most popular webinars. But hurry, each webinar is only available for one week!

This Week's Webinar:

Discrimination is Trauma: Trauma-Informed Care Approaches for Supporting Marginalized Populations

Access available August 28 to September 3

Presented by: Uppala Chandrasekera

Discrimination impacts service users, service providers, organizations, and the entire Social Work and Social Service Work profession. The impacts of all forms of discrimination, especially anti-Black and anti-Indigenous racism, as well as colonialism, oppression, antisemitism, anti-Muslim hate, anti-Asian racism, have heightened feelings of isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, many individuals and communities have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic, including women, youth, 2SLGBTQ+ persons, individuals with disabilities, Indigenous, Black, racialized, and other marginalized populations. The wellbeing of Social Workers and Social Service Workers have also been greatly affected as individuals struggle to work through internal institutional and systemic barriers combined with many external pressures during this time of global uncertainty.

This webinar will provide an overview of the causes and impacts of discrimination and racism on mental health, as well as identify opportunities and resources for addressing discrimination and racism at the individual, organizational, community, and systems level.
